Ranked one of the top 10 busiest airports in the world, Charlotte Douglas International Airport averages 1,400 aircraft operations every day while serving 178 nonstop destinations. But even all that traffic doesn’t keep airport management from focusing on the customer experience with routine opinion surveys — which makes it one of our favorite terminals in the United States.
A focus on southern hospitality translates into free Wi-Fi through the terminal, additional charging stations for devices, a crew of canine therapy dogs and handlers who aim to greet as many passengers as possible and ongoing improvements to their offerings to passengers to make sure your time spent at their terminal is as comfortable as possible.
When visiting CLT, consider one of the following things to do:
Get your steps in before sitting on the plane. The terminal is nearly four miles of climate-controlled space — cool in the winter, warm in the summer. So, stretch your legs and explore everything CLT has to offer.
People watch. Grab a seat and watch the throngs of people come and go. There are more than 20,000 employees in CLT and with millions of visitors a year and tens of thousands a day, there’s a chance to see and be seen.
Search for a rocking chair. CLT features a selection of signature white rocking chairs, seek them out and claim one to take a break from all the steps we recommended above.
Take a selfie. There are giant letters spelling CLT outside checkpoint E before security; as well as a Charlotte postcard backdrop near the entry to concourse B. When you share it, don’t forget to tag us!
Go shopping. There are roughly 50 stores and just as many restaurants of all cuisines and levels of service (from grab-and-go to sit-down style) to curb your appetite. Stroll through and pick up souvenirs or necessities.
Just relax. Grab a massage, or a mani pedi at any of the XpressSpa locations in the airport and finish up at one of our Minute Suites locations (one located in the Atrium, one located in the D/E corridor).
Late last year, the city of Charlotte approved a half a billion dollar investment to expand the main lobby of the airport with the construction expected to last roughly five years, so if you’re planning to travel to the airport expect minimal construction-related delays.
