Why We Love BWI

As construction officially kicks off at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), our team’s excitement grows.

Why? We’re glad you asked.

First, it’s important to know we’re not alone in feeling this way.

In 2018, BWI Marshall ranked the 10th best U.S. airport by readers of Condé Nast Traveler Magazine. Here’s what they said:

“The votes are in: BWI is a hands-down winner for travelers seeking alternatives to D.C.’s congested air hubs. The airfield wins praise for its easy access—it’s right on a major Amtrak line—and outdoor activities and amenities, like an observation deck, a walking trail, and even a place to rent bikes, which fliers can then ride along a 12-mile trail around the grounds. Foodies like the multitude of places to sample Maryland’s famous crabs, including outposts of local eateries Phillips and Obrycki’s; those in a hurry can get meals delivered straight to the gate under the new Airport Sherpa program.”

A walking trail? Bike rentals? Delivery service for foodies? Those aren’t usually associated with a layover. No wonder BWI Marshall Airport remains the busiest airport in the Washington-Baltimore region, with 2018 being a fourth-straight record year for passenger traffic (that was 27.1 million passengers).

Imagine a flight delay where you take a 12-mile bike ride outside, then shower and grab a nap before eating a five-star meal. If you have kids, stop by the brand new indoor playground or wander around the observation area, complete with comfortable rocking chairs. With amenities like this and service to 90 domestic and international destinations, it’s no wonder more and more people are booking flights through BWI.

The community benefits from the boom as well. In fact, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced in 2018 that BWI Marshall Airport produces a total economic impact of $9.3 billion. The airport and visitors generate and support more than 106,000 jobs throughout Maryland and the region.

BWI also plays its part to send travelers off into the community. Getting around is easy when you can choose from transportation like MARC Rail, Amtrak, Light Rail, Metrobus, and commuter bus, not to mention on-air parking.

On your next trip, come see us! As soon as we set an opening date (we’re still under construction), we’ll open up reservations. Your oasis will be nestled comfortably in Concourse C, a nice central location that’s accessible from any concourse and directly adjacent to Urban Bar-B-Que, a local favorite. Stop by Sweet Jesus for ice cream, grab a massage at neighboring Be Relax, then unwind in your own private space until it’s time to depart.

We can’t wait to see you at BWI!
